Highlights of the Press Conference on IP-related Work Statistics in the First Half of 2022

On July 12, 2022, the State Council Information Office of China held a press conference. China State Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) introduced the statistics of China's intellectual property related work in the first half of 2022:

 

Patents:  In the first half of the year, 393,000 invention patents were granted in China, 1,473,000 utility model patents were granted, and 383,000 design patents were granted. PCT international patent applications were received by CNIPA amounting to 33,000.  Chinese applicants filed 353 international design applications through the Hague Agreement. 31,000 patent reexamination cases were concluded, and 5,000 cases for invalidation were concluded. As of the end of June 2022, the effective numbers of invention patents in China was 3.906 million, 17.5% increased.

 

Trademarks:  In the first half of the year, the number of registered trademarks in China was 3.674 million. 2,699 applications for international registration of Madrid trademarks filed by domestic applicants were received. The review of 81,000 trademark opposition cases were concluded and the trial of 217,000 trademark review and adjudication cases were concluded. As of the end of June 2022, there were 40.545 million valid registered trademarks in China, 20.9% increased.

 

Geographical indications:  In the first half of the year, 3 products with geographical indications were approved. 365 registrations of geographical indications as collective marks and certification marks were approved. 2,239 market entities using special signs as geographical indications were approved. As of the end of June 2022, a total of 2,493 geographical indication products have been approved. 6,927 registrations of geographical indications as collective marks and certification marks were approved. 19,350 market entities using special signs as geographical indications were approved.

 

In terms of layout design of integrated circuits: In the first half of the year, there were 7,661 applications for registration of layout designs of integrated circuits in China, and 5,233 certificates were issued. As of the end of June 2022, a total of 74,000 applications for registration of layout designs of integrated circuits in China have been issued, and 57,000 certificates have been issued.
